Viking shield with carved Urnes style Norse Drake ornaments
This piece features Urnes style Norse drake ornamental patterns carved into the plywood, as well as steel bolts, and hand-hammered umbo, and it comes with a wood handlebar installed on the back.
The Urnes style is the last phase of Viking art. It takes its name from the remarkable carved wooden doors of the stave church at Urnes, Norway. The style is a refinement of the Ringerike style and depends upon the interplay of gracefully curving lines for its effect.
The shield is made out of 15mm thick birch plywood and finished with wood-burning technique, as well as staining and varnishing with linen seed oil.
The shield can be used as a decorative wall hanger or as a functional piece for medieval reenactment or LARP.
