Viking Dragon Two Handed Ax full 3D relief carved handle
The ax head is loosely based on the widely used design from the Viking age.
It is crafted with both traditional methods of forging and modern metalworking techniques.
Ax head is left with a generally rough finish, it is beveled and sharpened. The head is secured and fixed to the handle with an iron wedge and industrial glue or epoxy resin for maximum strength.
The head is blackened using a traditional technique of rubbing wool on heated metal, which gives it a specific and slightly rough texture. The ax comes with a sharp edge and it is generally intended as a decorative piece.
The handle is made of beech wood, it is fully covered in 3D relief featuring original Early medieval patterns. The main motif on this handle are two Jellinge serpent ornaments - other ornamental patterns are also done in full 3D.
It is stained and finished with boiled linen seed oil and transparent varnish.
